NAME AND LATIN NAME AND EFFECT ON THE MIND AND THE SPIRIT

Angelica (Angelica Archangelica)

Was used in the middle ages to protect against witches and to keep the effects of the plague at bay.

Angelica was grown in monasteries under the name of Angel grass.

This oil gives support when facing difficult problems and decisions.

It helps in meditation by opening the realm of Angelic energies. Encourages strength and stamina.

Angelica oil is comforting and enhances creativity and inspiration.

Aniseed (Illicium Verum)

Aniseed is very uplifting and can stimulate a tired mind. Very helpful in times of exams.

Another quality of this oil is that it helps to restore harmony and balance in life after turmoil.

Basil (Ocimum Basilicum)

Basil is excellent to help concentration.

It is a powerful aid to combat apathy, emotional exhaustion and anxiety.

Its scents can help to revive memories from the past.

Basil is used in magic for protection and to increase wealth.

Bay (Laurus Nobilis)

A very potent plant which was believed to protect against witches and evil spirits in the middle-ages.

It is the oil for poets as it gives inspiration, creativity and encourages confidence.

Bay is believed to enhance the gift of prophecy and the power of divination.

It clears away disturbing dreams and can be used as protection.

Bay can bring fortitude and positive changes in life.

Benzoin (Styrax Benzoin)

Also known as Friars Balsam. It was traditionally used to drive away evil spirits.

This oil is good to tackle stress and can also create a kind of euphoria.

When loneliness or sadness occurs, Benzoin encourages comfort, elevation, peace and determination.

This plant has been used in Shamanism to facilitate transformation into other life-forms.

Benzoin is well known as a powerful protection for a house or a car.

Bergamot (Citrus Bergamia)

This citrus oil is excellent to lift depression, calm anxiety, annihilate negative thoughts, stabilize emotions and encourage harmony, strength and joy.

Bergamot invigorates the body and the spirit and help to deal with regrets and nightmares. It also enhances a relaxing sleep.

This oil is thought to bring eternal youth and happiness.

I love to use this oil prior to readings creating a relaxing atmosphere and prepare me to attune to my spiritual being.

Black Pepper (Piper Nigrum)

This oil is well known for stimulating and sharpening mental faculties.

Used in magic to clear psychic exhaustion and negative energies, and also as a protection when conducting visualizations.

Black pepper encourages stamina, endurance and motivation.

Cardamom (Elatarria Cardamomum)

This plant stimulates memory from past incarnations and gives wisdom.

Excellent aid in combating fatigue, soothing nerves and dissipating confusion.

Cedarwood (Juniperus Virginiana)

Cedarwood trees are thought to be the symbol of eternal return or reincarnation.

It deepens the connection with deities and the realm of spirits and can act as protection.

Chamomile (Roman) (Anthemis Nobilis)

Chamomile is excellent to bring relaxation, inner peace, serenity and emotional stability, as it has a soothing effect on mind and body.

This oil can be used to drive away feelings of resentment, frustration and anger.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Zaylanicum)

This oil is used in magic to increase finances.

It also transforms sorrow and sadness into strength and a more positive outlook.

Cinnamon enhances psychic awareness and it useful during meditation.

Clary Sage (Salvia Sclarea)

Clary sage is perfect to bring on vivid dreams and dreams recollection. Its sedative properties make it helpful when insomnia occurs.

This oil is used to uplift and soothe the emotions and help combat disorder such as obsession, compulsiveness and depression, as it encourages calm and peace.

Coriander (Coriandrum Sativum)

Fennel, Sweet (Foeniculum Vulgare)

Fennel is good to raise self-esteem and to ward off negative thoughts from other people. It also helps to gain stamina and strength.

Use in magic as protection and purification from outside influences.

Frankincense (Boswellia Carteri)

Frankincense is used in churches to purify and clear the atmosphere.

It is also used when conducting rites of luck and protection, and during exorcism.

An excellent oil to have in the burner to induce meditative state and to elevate the spirit and the mind.

It encourages personal and spiritual growth, and clears up emotional exhaustion and depression.

Geranium (Pelargonium Graveolens)

Geranium oil associated with feminine energies, birth and rebirth.

It eases anxiety, stress and stabilize the mood.

Geranium is well known for protecting against negative thoughts and emotional exhaustion and its joyful scent encourages relaxation and regeneration.

One of my favorite oils when I feel tired after intense readings.

Ginger (Zingiber Officinale)

A powerful support to sharpen the senses and help memory.

Ginger oil is a good aid to combat overtiredness and ban lethargy.

Its spicy scent encourages optimism and liberation and it is comforting in periods of unsettlement.

Another well-known use of Ginger is for love rituals and sexual desire, because of its warming qualities.

Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi)

Grapefruit has a citrus scent and therefore is excellent to revitalize and elevate the mood by easing nervous tension, combating apathy, resentment and envy.

It helps to clear away worries about the past and reconnect mind with body and spirit.

Grapefruit is excellent in encouraging joy, confidence, positive thinking, spontaneity and generosity.

Jasmine (Jasminum Officinalis)

The flower of love and peace. Its powerful scent encourages optimism, inspiration, joy and harmony and can have euphoric properties.

It also helps to combat apathy, emotional blockages, sadness and rigid thoughts.

Enhances psychic dreams.

Juniper (Juniperus Communis)

Protective oil to support the spirit when challenging situations occur. It encourages inner visions and facilitates trances.

Juniper oil is also a good cleanser as it cleans the house from negative influences or forces.

Lavender (Lavendula Augustifolia)

Lavender oil is a must to have at home. Its application is diverse: from helping anxiety and relieving anger and exhaustion, to calm panic attack and balance mood swings.

Its action on the mind helps to clear away negative thoughts, worries and apprehension.

Excellent oil to alleviate insomnia and migraine. Powerful aid to unwind in times of overtiredness.

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus)

Its citrus scent is an excellent pick me up when feeling down and exhausted as it lifts the spirit.

Lemongrass clears away feeling of self-doubts and regrets encouraging a more balancing and calm attitude.

It can be used as purification to cleanse a room after an argument for instance.

It enhances psychic awareness and therefore is quite useful when undertaking psychic work.

Lemon (Citrus Limonum)

Another oil from the citrus family which is helpful to clear, refresh and stimulate an overtired mind. It also revitalizes the body.

Lemon oil light scent can dissipate emotional confusion and encourage direction giving clarity of thought and awareness.

Marjoram, Sweet (Origanum Marjorana)

This oil is well known for its properties of comforting in times of grief and sorrow as it encourages peacefulness.

Marjoram is also an excellent help in combating headaches, stress and mental strain. It dissipates irrational thoughts and eases anxiety and panic attacks.

Melissa (Melissa Officinalis)

An expensive oil which helps a distressed spirit or in times when people feel vulnerable. Melissa is soothing and uplifting on the mind and can ease feelings of grief, nervous anxiety or shock and even hysteria.

It is a good oil for meditation and prayers as it encourages peace.

Melissa is used for purification and with spells regarding money and earthy possessions.

Myrrh (Commiphora Myrrha)

One of the gifts (together with Frankincense and gold) brought by the Magi to the infant Jesus according to the Bible.

Myrrh has been used for centuries as it enhances feeling of peace, serenity and calm.

It is a powerful help in mediumship and in clairvoyance and relaxes the mind during meditation.

Neroli (Citrus Aurantium)

Also known as the natural tranquillizer as it eases away feelings of depression, anxiety, emotional exhaustion and grief.

Neroli heals deep emotional wounds by giving feelings of peace, understanding, regeneration and calm. Its scent can be hypnotic and euphoric bringing purification and joy to the spirit.

Try to blend in your burner a few drops of Melissa, Neroli and Rose Maroc or Otto as this blend will comfort you in times of sadness and will help you to find peace and acceptance.

Patchouli (Pogostemon Cablin)

Patchouli oil has been associated with the hippies back in the 60's although it has been used in Britain since the early eighteen century.

This oil is an aid in meditation and yoga as it uplifts the spirit and encourages the gift of second-sight.

Patchouli liberates from boundaries.

Peppermint (Mentha Piperita)

A good oil for encouraging regeneration and self-acceptance.

It increases sensitivity, perception and awareness and stimulates daydreams.

Peppermint is excellent as a mental stimulant during studying.

Petitgrain (Citrus Aurantium)

The same family as Neroli, but Petitgrain uses twigs and leaves instead of the delicate orange flower tree, making the oil more affordable.

Its citrus scent encourages harmony, strength, joy and self-confidence.

Petitgrain is also good to promote artistic expression.

Pine (Pinus Sylvestris)

Pine is well known for alleviating fatigue and nervous exhaustion and refreshing a tired mind.

It imbues a sense of freedom and encourages simplicity, humility and perseverance. Excellent to have in the burner in times of self-doubt or when feeling weak (physically, mentally and spiritually).

Rose Maroc (Rosa Damascena)

Rose Maroc is an expensive oil like its sister Rose Otto of Bulgaria.

However, Rose oil is the scent to inhale in time of sadness, regret, loss, grief, resentment, shock, terror, anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion, fear and anger.

Traditionally associated with purity, love and romance, rose oil is use when casting spells regarding relationships.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis)

Rosemary is use during exorcisms as it is a powerful aid for purification.

It also helps to ease headaches, fatigue, lack of concentration and apathy as it encourages bursts of energy, confidence and concentration.

Thought to protect sleepers against nightmares.

Sandalwood (Santalum Album)

Sandalwood is known for lifting the mind to higher spiritual planes, bringing feelings of peace and tranquility.

Its scent has a balancing and grounding effect on the mind as it helps to ease feelings of inadequacy, lack of confidence, tension, stress and fear and also cut ties with the past and appease recurrent dreams.

Enhances intuition and psychic abilities.

Sage, Dalmatia (Salvia Officinalis)

Sage has a reputation of cleansing and purifying the spirit and it is used by North American Indian tribes in ceremonies of purification.

It is said that this plant gives strength, courage, protection and perseverance.

Vetiver (Vertiveria Zizanoides)

Vetiver is known as the oil of tranquility as it restores peace of mind at times of stress, anxiety, tension and insecurity.

It helps to encourage wisdom, honor, calmness and raises self-esteem.

Powerful aid when the mind feels restless to combat insomnia and induces gentle sleep.

Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium)

This oil opens intuitive realms by enhancing dreams and visionary experiences, and facilitating astral travel.

Yarrow raises the spirit and aids in gaining restful sleep. It encourages equilibrium and harmony.

Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata)

Its scent has a soothing, uplifting and comforting effect which helps in times of panic, irritation, frustration, jealousy, impatience, shyness and stubbornness.

It encourages calm, enthusiasm and joy by lifting feelings of depression, anxiety and shock.
